ROBOLAZR: Revolution in Cataract Surgery

Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS)

Robolazr has ushered in a paradigm shift in the cataract surgery scenario and promises excellent results for the patients. Robolazr enhances precision and safety compared to handheld instruments. It has shown excellent results for accurate self-sealing corneal incisions, arcuate incisions to reduce incision induced astigmatism, highly circular, strong and well-positioned capsulotomy, and safer and less technically difficult removal of the cataract with almost complete elimination of phaco-emulsification.

Understanding Cataracts

Cataracts are a common eye condition in which the lens of the eye becomes cloudy impairing vision.

Most cataracts typically occur when ageing or due to injury to the eye that changes the tissue that makes up the eye’s lens. It causes the proteins and fibers in the lens to break down which in turn causes the vision to become cloudy.

Cataracts can also be caused by

  • medical conditions, including diabetes
  • disorders passed down from parents
  • past eye surgery
  • long-term use of steroid medicines
  • other eye conditions.

Most Ophthalmologists suggest cataract surgery when cataracts affect the quality of life. It includes traditional or bladed cataract surgery and bladeless cataract surgery.

During traditional cataract surgery, the surgical blade is handled by a manual hand to make incisions and remove cataracts.

During bladeless cataract surgery, a beam of laser is used to make precise incisions, gentle fragmentation and removal of cataracts.

  • Don't drive on the first day.
  • Don't lift anything heavy for the first few days.
  • Immediately after the procedure, avoid bending over, to avoid putting extra pressure on your eye.
  • Be careful walking around after surgery, and don't bump into doors or objects.
  • Avoid swimming during the first week to reduce infections.

Manual Capsulotomies

capsulotomoy-manual
Manual capsulotomies involve the surgeon using microsurgical instruments like forceps or cystotomes to manually create an opening in the lens capsule. This process demands a high level of surgical precision to ensure the capsulotomy is appropriately sized and positioned.

Laser Capsulotomies

Laser capsulotomies employ ROBOLAZR technology. The laser emits ultra-short pulses of light, focused precisely to create a clean and accurately sized opening in the lens capsule. This method offers a higher degree of accuracy and reproducibility compared to manual capsulotomies. This further reduces the chances of complications, such as capsule tears and contributes to better visual outcomes post-surgery.
