ROBOLAZR: Revolution in Cataract Surgery
Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS)
Advancement Over Conventional Surgery
ROBOLAZR stands at the forefront of a transformative era in cataract surgery, reshaping the landscape of conventional procedures. This cutting-edge approach harnesses the power of femtosecond laser technology to usher in a new standard of precision and efficacy.
Unlike traditional methods, ROBOLAZR allows surgeons to craft meticulously accurate incisions and delicately fragment cataracts with unparalleled finesse. This revolutionary technique not only streamlines the surgical process but also offers enhanced control in managing astigmatism, promising superior visual outcomes for patients.
- With ROBOLAZR the surgeon can make the corneal incisions with exceptional precision and accuracy.
- The surgeon can use the ROBOLAZR to break up and soften the hard cataract. Softening the lens with the laser enables the surgeon to remove the cataract more gently and with significantly less ultrasound energy than is used in traditional methods.
- The surgery doesn't take more than 70 seconds so the minimal time spent inside the eye reduces the chances of infection or post operative complications.
- This is a blade-free and suture-less surgery in which the corneal incisions being multiplanar have the potential to self heal.
- The IOL insertion in perfect capsulotomy reduces implant tilt or decentration and as a consequence reduces higher-order aberrations.

Understanding Cataracts
Cataracts are a common eye condition in which the lens of the eye becomes cloudy impairing vision.
Most cataracts typically occur when ageing or due to injury to the eye that changes the tissue that makes up the eye’s lens. It causes the proteins and fibers in the lens to break down which in turn causes the vision to become cloudy.
Cataracts can also be caused by
- medical conditions, including diabetes
- disorders passed down from parents
- past eye surgery
- long-term use of steroid medicines
- other eye conditions.
Most Ophthalmologists suggest cataract surgery when cataracts affect the quality of life. It includes traditional or bladed cataract surgery and bladeless cataract surgery.
During traditional cataract surgery, the surgical blade is handled by a manual hand to make incisions and remove cataracts.
During bladeless cataract surgery, a beam of laser is used to make precise incisions, gentle fragmentation and removal of cataracts.
- Don’t drive on the first day.
- Don’t lift anything heavy for the first few days.
- Immediately after the procedure, avoid bending over, to avoid putting extra pressure on your eye.
- Be careful walking around after surgery, and don’t bump into doors or objects.
- Avoid swimming during the first week to reduce infections.
Manual capsulotomies involve the surgeon using microsurgical instruments like forceps or cystotomes to manually create an opening in the lens capsule. This process demands a high level of surgical precision to ensure the capsulotomy is appropriately sized and positioned.
